We were really excited to have a visit from Will, with the SEAI. We had been hearing rumours from the other classes all day about the ideas and games he had! He was delighted to find out that we had been learning about sustainable energy (things like wind turbines, hydroelectric power and solar energy) and he asked us loads of questions, and got us to give him lots of our ideas.
What we finished up the workshop with was really exciting - a human sized board game! It was great fun, and really tested our knowledge of energy usage and how to be more sustainable. One team even had to "burn some energy" by doing push-ups! We wonder if there's any way to generate electricity from that?...
We've been working hard on our class tunes on tine whistle, fitting our practices in around Power Hour and all the other exciting things going on! We even got to see a very small whistle in key C (all of our whistles are in the key of D.)
We have also been working on a tune in three part harmony. It's an old tune called Scarborough Fair, but we think you'll like our version just as much!
We had a visit today from Garda Hugh and he told us all about how to stay safe online and on social media. He was very impressed with our knowledge of what to do if we encounter cyber bullying. We knew a lot of the strategies he recommended already, and we can always brush up on them with Webwise.
He thought that we were so good that we could visit his garda van and see what it was like in the back! We took turns in groups - it was a little scary!
We've finished our group projects about the Great Famine in Irealnd in the mid-1800s, and we've put the posters up on the wall in the main school corridor. We did an oral presentation to Mrs Garvey's 2nd and 3rd class, and we were delighted they were so interested! We hope you all find them as interesting as we did!
4th, 5th and 6th in the prefab!
