Instead of making cards for Valentines this year, we took some time to learn about Zentangles. These simple doodling shapes are supposed to help us refocus and calm ourselves, and we have to say, nobody got stressed while we made them!
To make them slightly more festive, we recycled sweet wrappers for the heart shapes, which lets us still see through to our designs, but adds some nice colour!

Not only was it Shrove Tuesday today, but we had a birthday in our room! We celebrated with a candle in the pancakes, instead of birthday cake! Everyone got to try Ms McNamara's home made pancakes (freshly made by her mom!). We had a selection of toppings to use - maple syrup, lemon juice, sugar, golden syrup, honey, chocolate sauce, chocolate spread, chocolate sprinkles and coloured sprinkles. They were DELICIOUS!
It's the year of the Monkey in China. Some of us are expecting new babies in our families - they will be monkeys, according to the Chinese zodiac!
Since our room is beautifully decorated by us since last Friday, we celebrated today by eating a variety of Chinese food. We weren't all sure of eating everything, but most of us were brave and at least tried a nibble of each piece! On Monday the 8th of February, it will be Chinese new year - the year of the monkey! We got our room ready by making some Chinese decorations. The red colour is a sign of good luck, and the symbols we used mean "happiness". We did "double happiness" because we think the year of the monkey is going to be great! Then we turned the symbols and hung them upside down, because that is Chinese tradition.
We also didn't waste any paper: we had to use A4 paper to make our decorations, so we folded them into a right-angled triangle and cut off a rectangle, leaving a big square. We used the leftover rectangle to make tiny Chinese lanterns to hang on our decorations. |
