Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! We followed on from the art ideas of the senior classes, and did our own versions of Heart Creatures to bring home this Valentine's Day. They ranged in variety from hedgehogs (or hodgehegs!) and puppies to elephants and penguins, little ladybirds and huge hippos to heart monsters and heart pokémon! It was tricky to figure out all the sizes and shapes we needed, and then to cut them out, but it was good fun!
4th class are still extremely busy at maths! We have been hard at work on 3D shapes, Time, Fractions and Money, among other things. We constructed some 3D shapes out of printed nets recently, and had an entertaining time working out which face of a pentagonal pyramid connected to which edge of the base!
To really understand fractions, we sometimes have to think outside the box. So we got some boxes from outside school, and brought them in. We didn't find it difficult to divide the food inside the boxes into fractions! We had circular pizzas and a tart, and a cylindrical swiss roll, and we also practised on a wholemeal wrap. It's easier to remember why we use fractions and division when we can see them in everyday life.
A record of our activities in the Resource room!
