We finished off our Christmas treat activity today - Pom-Pom creatures! There was quite a lot of work involved in making them. We had to thread, pull, link, cut and tie all the pieces of wool to get their fluffy bellies right. Some of us ran over and back across the room to pull the thread through the centre; others did some dramatic gymnastics with the thread (we could probably qualify for Olympic Ribbon Dancing!); the rest of us got a lot of tricep and bicep stretching from our chairs.
We think they turned out wonderful, and we can't wait to hang them up at home! enjoy them in school for the last time today!
After learning about the myth of the Salmon of Knowledge in class, we looked up some other myths and legends from around the world. We decided to do a project about Theseus and the Minotaur, from Ancient Greece. There were a lot of very strange words and names, but thankfully we had some 5th class experts on hand to help us with pronunciation. When it was all finished, we presented it to 2nd and 3rd class.
Now you can read it yourself - look for it displayed in the school corridor. And - if you're brave enough - see if you can use your finger to navigate the maze! Watch out for any minotaurs!
Instead of making cards for Valentines this year, we took some time to learn about Zentangles. These simple doodling shapes are supposed to help us refocus and calm ourselves, and we have to say, nobody got stressed while we made them!
To make them slightly more festive, we recycled sweet wrappers for the heart shapes, which lets us still see through to our designs, but adds some nice colour!
We made a big poster that combines art by everybody in our class. We all coloured and painted our own circle patterns, and then cut them up into quarters. We kept one piece of our own and chose three other pieces from the other children's. Then we displayed them on the wall outside our classroom. It's a bright, beautiful piece of art to see when we come out of our room! We hope you like it too!
Here are some of the decorations in our classroom for Christmas. Every day one person gets to find the date and pick a treat from our igloo Advent Calendar. The penguins that live there go for a little walk every day too! We also made a Nativity Display for the whole school and put it in the front corridor.
A record of our activities in the Resource room!
