We were looking at the properties of mixtures and solutions in science this week. It took us a little while to figure out a quick way to separate the mixture of unifix and marbles, until we discovered that the unifix float in water. Then we looked at putting two separate food colourings into water. They looked quite pretty, and when we mixed the blue and yellow together, they turned green! Then our teacher stumped us by asking us to separate them back into their original materials, like we did with the unifix and marbles. It was impossible! This is because they became a solution! A solution is also a mixture, but it's a type of mixture where there is the same composition throughout, and both are dissolved.
