The Egg Drop Challenge
The students in 3rd and 4th class took part in The Egg Drop Challenge. In groups, they designed and created various contraptions that would protect an egg and prevent it from breaking when dropped from a height. The groups came up with lots of wonderful creations and great fun was had by all!

Engineering Challenges
As part of our STEM work this year the fifth and sixth class were set some engineering challenges.
For the first challenge, each group received a pack with lollipop sticks, elastic bands, a plastic spoon and a pom pom. They were asked to make a catapult using the given materials only. A timer was set for 20 minutes and after time was up, one person from each group had the opportunity to show their catapults and explain how they worked.
The second challenge involved spaghetti and marshmallows. The children were given 15 minutes to try build the tallest tower using the materials supplied. After 15 minutes, we gathered as a class and spoke about what worked best or didn’t work. The children were given a further 15 minutes to create their wonderful towers.

Engineers Week 2022
Design Your Own Playground
We used the Engineers Week classroom pack to do a number of fun activities. Using paper and other recyclable materials the students designed their own playgrounds with moving objects like swings and roundabouts. The students presented their designs to other groups, explaining how they made the different features. They also identified modifications they would make to improve their designs if they were to do the project again.
