We looked at magnets today, and used them to make our very own compass. We used a magnet, a paper clip, a cork and a bowl of water.

We have a lovely Irish poem (ask us to say it for you some time!) and it mentions directions. Today we had a look at the directions on a compass. North is towards the front of the school, South is towards the secondary school, West is towards the Boys School and East is towards our neighbour's house!
For St. Brigid's Day, Mrs Garvey showed us how to make Brigid's crosses out of rushes. It's very simple really, but it looks lovely in the end. We made our own wool and lollipop stick crosses afterwards.
Today we tried some creative engineering using lollipop sticks and clothes pegs. We tried bluetak and binder clips too, but we decided we need a lot more of them the next time we try. Have a look at some of the constructions we made (and destroyed!)
We've been singing this song for a while now, and today we added in some crazy percussion! Have a listen! Two of our classmates are fantastic engineers. After reading about pyramids and churches, they decided to go home and build examples of the architecture we were looking at in school. Look at how cool they are!
Have a look at us during our healthy eating time. We're enjoying some lovely fresh bananas and peppers from Food Dudes while we watch the video they sent us this week.
Have a look at some of the activities we do in our P.E. class! We have been doing a lot of work about trees in the lead up to National Tree Day. We are learning a lovely poem about a little acorn - make sure to ask us to say it for you! We're really good at it!
We went for a nature walk today to see a giant horse-chestnut tree in our town. We were able to collect a lot of leaves and a lot of chestnuts. We might even be able to play a few games of conkers, since we have so many! On our walk we also saw the lovely new photo spot for Headford Lace, and we had to stop and take a group photo! We were able to name some other trees we spotted too - Ash, Mountain Ash, Oak, Copper Maple, Sycamore and Beech. |
